NovoCure Optune: Innovative Therapy for Glioblastoma Treatment

Optune is an innovative medical device developed by NovoCure for the treatment of glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. The device uses Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields), which are low-intensity, alternating electric fields that disrupt cancer cell division. By wearing Optune, patients receive continuous therapy directly to the tumor site, targeting cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue. Clinical studies have shown that when used alongside standard treatments like chemotherapy, Optune can significantly improve progression-free survival and overall survival rates in patients with newly diagnosed or recurrent glioblastoma.

GBM duplicates into 2 cells

When a tumor isn’t treated, it keeps growing bigger because GBM cancer cells keep dividing and making more cells. When a GBM cell divides, it shapes like an hourglass and then splits into two identical cells.

Tumor Treating Fields Interfere with Cell Division

Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields), which are electrical fields that may stop cancer cells from dividing. This helps slow tumor growth. Additionally, Optune may even destroy existing cancer cells.
